ABOUT THE ALLIANCE AGAINST DOMESTIC ABUSE

The Alliance Against Domestic Abuse (AADA) was founded in 1983 by a group of concerned local citizens.  Today the agency is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with three paid staff members and a seven-member Board of Directors.  AADA is funded by Federal, State and foundation grants, local agencies, fundraisers and private donations.

AADA provides advocacy to adult and child victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Chaffee and Western Fremont Counties.  All advocacy services are confidential, free of charge and include the following:

o   Short-term, energency safehousing

o   Emergency financial assistance

o   Peer Counseling

o   Youth Program

o   Resources/ Referrals

o   Weekly support groups for women & children

o   Court advocacy/ Court Watch

o   24-hour Crisis Pager

o   Educational Outreach Program

Victims living in rural communities face additional barriers when attempting to leave an abusive relationship.  Lack of resources, lack of anonymity, isolation, and social stigmas are all factors that make leaving difficult.  In addition, victims are at a much higher risk of being hurt or killed when they decide to leave an abusive relationship.  Support services and access to resources are crucial.

In 2008, AADA:

o   Served 193 local women and men

o   59 local children

o   Provided 346 nights of shelter to 16 adults and 28 children

o   Assisted with 44 restraining orders

o   Provided 19 victims with rental assistance

o   Provided 161 victims with peer counseling

o   Educated 255 Chaffee County students about teen dating violence
